More than coffee.
A place to belong.

The Roasted Pickle was born from something personal, a blend of our Colombian roots, where a deep respect for great coffee runs in the culture, and a life spent creating spaces and experiences that bring people together. It's where my wife's background in building warm, welcoming bakery environments meets my connection to sport, community, and the energy around it. What came out of that is not just a concept, but a place that feels natural, honest, and grounded in who we are.

We didn't set out to build just another coffee shop. We wanted to create a space that feels familiar from day one, where quality is a given, conversations flow easily, and people genuinely enjoy being there. The Roasted Pickle is our way of bringing together coffee, movement, and community in a way that feels real, because we're part of it too.

1965— The year it all began —

Bainbridge Island, Washington. Three friends, one improvised game, and a dog that wouldn't give the ball back.

Meet Pickles

The dog that (allegedly) named a sport.

Summer of 1965. Three dads on Bainbridge Island — Joel Pritchard, Bill Bell and Barney McCallum — improvised a backyard game with a badminton net, ping-pong paddles and a perforated plastic ball. As the legend goes, the family's cocker spaniel, Pickles, kept snatching the ball and running off with it. The game got named after the dog. And the fastest-growing sport in the world was born.

Whether the name really came from the pup or from a "pickle boat" is still up for debate — but the dog story is the one the community adopted, and the one we love. The Roasted Pickle is our tribute to that moment where sport, friendship and a good-natured disruptor all collided.

Our own Pickles is the spiritual heir: the brand guardian, the unofficial bag inspector, and the reason every roast we do is named with a sense of play.

Equipping public schools and community centers in underserved areas with paddles, balls, nets and after-school programs — so a kid's first serve doesn't depend on her zip code.

Golden Rally

Programs designed with and for older adults. Pickleball is one of the few sports that meets them where they are — low-impact, social, and ridiculously good for balance and heart health.

03 ——

Build a Court

Partnering with municipalities and NGOs to turn forgotten spaces — abandoned lots, school yards, rec centers — into community pickleball courts that stay open for everyone, free.

04 ——

Coach the Coaches

Certifying and supporting local coaches so programs don't depend on us to survive. We leave, the community keeps playing.

We will publish a transparent Impact Report every quarter — dollars committed, programs active, courts built, players reached. If we don't meet our commitment, we'll say so first.
